The Phoenix Podcast

It's been a long time coming...but Episode 1 of "The Phoenix" is finally up and running.

iTunes Update!!! For those with ipods and iTunes subsciption, here is how to subscribe to my podcast. Open up iTunes, go to Podcasts. In the "Advanced" menu, click "subscribe to podcast." When the html window pops up, just copy and paste my RSS feed: http://jayrey.castpost.com/feed/feed.xml

OR, you can open up iTunes, go to "Podcasts," then click "Podcast Directory" at the bottom. You can run a search for "The Phoenix." You'll find me there, as I'm the only podcast with that title. The listing also has "The Phoenix" as the album and the artist listed as "Unknown." You can then subscribe there as well.

The easiest way to listen is to simply hit the play button below, or you can go to my podcast website HERE.

SWEET! I will totally subscribe in iTunes!! What are you using to record your podcasts? I'm a geek so I'm curious!

The Phoenix said...

iTunes is in the process of validating my podcast. As soon as it's approved, I will let everyone know.

I used Audacity to record my podcast and Castpost to host it.

If anyone is thinking about podcasting, I can give you some great pointers and save you a TON of time.

Keshi said...

wow a podCast! A 1st-timer for me here...more intro Phoenix...

Keshi.

A podcast is simply a sort of "radio show" people can do using audio software and a microphone.

The big difference between a regular radio show and a podcast is that a podcast is in cyberspace, and it can have an RSS feed. In other words, you can simply subscirbe to the podcast via iTunes, for example, and whenever you hook up your ipod, it will automatically download the latest podcasts you subscribe to - for FREE.

Podcasting is the next generation blogging...and the two really go hand in hand very well.

I hope this helps.

When you do something, you do it up right. I do not know why you were worried about your voice as you are a veritable Carl Sagen. Excellent podcast. Have a good trip.

I watched a documentary recently on the Sci-Fi channel regarding the increased number of sightings in Oklahoma. It helped me to better understand my neighbor.

Meagan said...

Phoenixpod!! How very exciting. I loved hearing your voice (soon I'll listen to enough to comment on the content too :-)

Blogger used to have an audioblogger option; I haven't heard much about that in a while. It was different than this podcast option in that you called blogger's phone number, entered your password, and then you just talk away into the phone then it posts the audio to your blog. I thought it was pretty cool.

Not that you asked about that. I just thought I'd share the little tiny bit I knew.

love meagan

The Phoenix said...

Thanks fuzz. I do have a young sounding voice...telemarketers that call always ask for my parents!

Meagan, Yeah...I'll be using audioblogger when I'm on the road and don't have a computer. It'll be just me talking on the phone.

Yes! Thank you! Something useful to listen to on my iPod while on the treadmill.
I will definitely be subscribing to it, once it hits iTunes.

siren said...

Great podcast! It's definitely worth listening to...very entertaining. Can't wait to hear about your bigfoot adventure!

LBseahag said...

That experience made it feel like Thomas Dolby was sitting in my lap...

and I thank you...

phred said...

That`s cool. I look foward to hearing more.

Laurie said...

I can't wait to get your iTunes podcast! :-)

LostInTX said...

So cool... It was great to hear your voice!! It's so weird that as I read blogs I start imagining what people either look or sound like. You haven't supplied us with a pic but at least we have a preview into "the phoenix". lol.

Great podcast!

Curare_Z said...

Great job! Be careful that you don't step in any Bigfoot poop while you're in CA!!! I look forward to the stories and the podcasts when you return.

The Phoenix said...

Angel and Laurie, Thanks. When iTunes accepts the podcast, I will make sure to let everyone know.

Siren and phred, Thanks for your feedback. It's very encouraging.

L.B., You've blinded me with science!

Lostintx, I was afraid doing a podcast would sort of take away from the mystery of "The Phoenix." I was told that maybe just hearing my voice would actally make me more of an enigma.

Curare, If I step in bigfoot poop, I'll make sure to preserve the fresh poopies for analysis.

Karen said...

I'll probably never get an iPod (it's the fuddy duddy in me) : )

soooooooooooooooo, is there any other way to listen?

KC said...

How exciting! Unfortunately, I didn't have time to listen to the entire thing, but I will finish it tonight when I get home from work. (Damn work computers don't have audio.)

You sound soooo young! You have a wonderful speaking voice. Very impressive.

The Phoenix said...

Just hit the play button there on the Castpost player. That's it! You don't need an ipod to listen to podcasts.

The Phoenix said...

KC, I hope you can listen to it all the way through. This being my first attempt, I'd like to know what people think of it.
Yeah, I do have a very young-ish voice. I'm still not used to hearing myself, though. It's kinda weird.

Jay said...

I plan to be dead by 2102.

Karen said...

thanks Phoenix for comin' over to my place to let me know... i'll be back soon to listen ... can't wait!

Sherri said...

This was so cool!! I had no idea what a podcast was either. Looking forward to future podcasts!

PDD said...

Will have to check this out when I get home. Read your "Sex can save the world" post. Loved it! Left you a comment.

DaBich said...

Phoenix I want your autograph!!!!

Denny Shane said...

Excellent show! Good luck!

BrianAlt said...

Can't listen at work. Firewall blocks MP3s.

Perhaps I'll subscribe and listen on my iPod.

Laurie said...

Loved hearing your voice - and great job on the podcast! :-)

And I'm glad to hear that you're still continue blogging, too!

Karen said...

btw Phoenix, I liked your comment on the marijuana so I did a follow-up post centered around it.

Sar said...

Phoenix, that was so awesome! I wouldn't say your voice is youngish so much as it isn't oldish and you record very well. I heard them all and enjoyed them. The spouse one made me laugh and the meteor details made me worry. You are so creative, and I'm looking forward to more of these.

kim said...

Phoenix - If you have an iPod, you can record audio on it when you travel with the Griffin iTalk and then dump the files to your computer for editing. I know some people that do that on the fly and it works out ok. Not the greatest audio quality but you can clean it up a bit. Audacity looks pretty nice!

Big Pissy said...

Great! I would expect nothing less than excellence from you.

I especially love how user friendly it is.... ;-)

Keshi said...

Great inro thanks mate!

**Podcasting is the next generation blogging

whoaaa I cant imagine me playing radio host lolll!

Keshi.

The Phoenix said...

Jay, I'm with you. If it happens, none of us will be here.

sherri, dabitch, denny, Thanks for listening to it. I appreciate it.

PDD, I knew you'd like that post.

brianalt, my podcast has been approved by iTunes and instructions are posted.

Laurie, I appreciate it.

Sar, I'm glad you liked it. Everyone tells me I sound pretty young, and after listening to my podcast, I'd have to agree.

kim, I will have to look that up. Griffin makes great ipod products. Audacity is relatively easy, although not having any experience working with audio software made the learning curve pretty huge.

big pissy, They make it pretty easy. Just hit play.

keshi, I doubt podcasting will replace blogging. I think it's just another way for people to create stuff for other people. For me, it's just a nice compliment to my blogging.

ObilonKenobi said...

I listened to a small bit of it and it sounds great so far. Very professional. I will let you know what I think when I listen to it through iTunes. I am trying to get into podcasting. What kind of microphone do you use?

mrshife said...

I am looking forward to adding this to my iPod.

The Phoenix said...

Obilon, Mr. Shife, Great! iTunes really makes it easy to subscribe to podcasts.

I have a Labtec headset microphone, but it started messing up, so I had to revert to a regular karaoke-type of microphone.

That's my biggest gripe about my first podcast. My voice isn't so clear and crisp. I hope to improve that the second time around.

the weirdgirl said...

This was great Phoenix! And good to hear your voice; you sounded very "scientific" - like a good narrator for a science show.
Hey, if you swing through San Jose/the Bay Area on your trip, let me know, maybe we can get together!

And is that John Holland the guy who claims to have "seen" Bigfoot and has built a mini-museum to him? He seems to be trying to take many people out on "tours".

Jamie Dawn said...

I'm bummed because I can't hear your podcast.
I will keep trying. I MUST hear it!!!
My computer shows that it is playing and my volume is all the way up.
I'll figure the problem out.

DLAK said...

I didnt listen to it but I must say your little blog here has grown into a monster, where do you find the time?

james said...

Very impressive!

And it's good to hear VD17 get a mention, although I'm sure in the next 90 or so years we will have found plenty of other ways to destroy the Earth ourselves.

DLAK said...

Okay, I listened. I have a 10 year old computer with a phone line internet so its a little painful to do things like this BUT, it is so fucking cool... there is no stoping the revolution now LOL Good play holmes, have a great day.

Karen said...

Just finished listening to your podcast... very cool. Can't wait for the next episode!

KC said...

I'm subscribed. It's on my iPod. But I haven't listened yet.

By the way, if your interested, I found it on iTunes by searching for Phoenix.

I was able to listen to your podcast! Hooray!!

You did a good job with the background music.

The heartbeat was a good choice. Next time my hubby and I are in a verbal scuffle, I'll remember that it may kill us to continue arguing. I'll suggest that he admit he's wrong right away to avoid any hardening of our arteries.

So, VD will be hitting the earth in 2102. It's a good thing I'll be dead.

I was born and raised and lived most of my life in CA. We had a neighbor that I think is Bigfoot. The guy was very hairy, bearded, and big, AND he went camping all the time. He also stunk.

Enjoy your trip! Be sure and see General Sherman if you get a chance. That is a BIG tree!
Wave to my parents and my brother (He's a Jason too) while you're in CA.

kim said...

Phoenix - love the podcast! Podcastpickle and podcastalley are 2 places that podcasters are using to get noticed. I am a fount of useless information. Are you using a Mac or Windows computer?

Keshi said...

:) good going mate!

Keshi.

Used Hack said...

Hey, Phoenix. Congrats on making the big-time with the RFT. I'm subscribing to the podcast right now.

BrianAlt said...

Finally listened. Nice job!

Hope you're enjoying your adventure.

How come you're only speaking on the left side?

Mojotek said...

Wow!! Great job! I finally got a chance to download it and listen to it via iTunes.

Sounds very professional, and the microphone you used seems to work very well.

Now where did you get 'Audacity' and how much did you shell out for it?

PDD said...

TAG! You're it. For further info go to my site.

Stacy The Peanut Queen said...

Argh!! It keeps cutting in and out, dammit!

I'll keep trying.....:)

Kay said...

Great job with the podcast! And on the Riverfront Times thing is cool... I nominated your blog about two weeks ago. Maybe some others did, too? Awesome - your site is always fun.

TNChick said...

Very cool... look at you, movin' on up :)

Rocky said...

Best of luck on this venture. Great topics.

The Phoenix said...

I'm back!

WG, thanks! That's a different guy you're thinking, actually. John Holland is pretty weird though.

dlak, It's tough, but I work on this stuff in bits and pieces.

james, Who would've thought VD could destroy the Earth???

brianalt, I must've recorded it in mono. I noticed that too. I'll figure it out.

KC, Thanks! That is so amazing. I can't believe it. How cool.

JD, I'm glad you were finally able to listen.

Kim, I'm on Windows. Mac has so much stuff for podcasters, like GarageBand.

Keshi, thanks.

used hack, I am totally floored by it. I feel so special now.

mojotek, Audacity is free. You can download it at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Stacy, it seems the last few days, Castpost has had a ton of traffic. I hope you were able to listen to it eventually.

Kay, So YOU'RE the one? Thanks so much. You are so wonderful.

tnchick and rocky, Thanks. Like I said, I won't be putting up podcasts every week or anything. I hope to use them to highlight my writing from time to time.
