D is for DESIGN

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that takes many Victorian/Industrial Age technologies, and then thrusts it into a futuristic world. In a steampunk world, there might be flying machines, computers, and ray guns - but built from copper, wood, brass, and using steam as a power source. It's a unique blend of the future and the present that makes steampunk unique.

Steampunk has transcended just being a genre of science fiction. Amazing artists have used steampunk as inspiration in design as well. From interior decoration, to fashion, to cool household gadgets, and even architecture, steampunk can be utilized in all kinds of interesting and gorgeous ways.

A room inspired by Captain Nemo's Nautilus

One of the coolest things I've seen is when designers take something contemporary and completely steampunk the hell out of it. Check it:

Steampunk iPhone

Steampunk is everywhere! And artists are steampunking everything. Look at this:

The steampunk computer is great. Who says the mundane can't be visually striking?

My new WIP is going to have a steampunk feel. I LOVE the artwork that I've found, and I LOVE the idea of technology taking a different direction.

Steampunk design is really cool. My husband started work on a steampunk computer. We'll see how that turns out.

I think I'm more a fan of the steampunk design aesthetic than I am the literary movement. A whole bunch of brushed bronze and gear looking things glued to a surface and I'm sold.

That steampunk computer looks pretty wicked, with the three screens and all.

I don't wear much jewelry, but I love just about every piece you posted! My favorites are the hand-stamped ring, the & necklace.. and if I were a mom, I would absolutely want the necklace with my kids' handwriting.
