F is for FASHION

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that takes many Victorian/Industrial Age technologies, and then thrusts it into a futuristic world. In a steampunk world, there might be flying machines, computers, and ray guns - but built from copper, wood, brass, and using steam as a power source. It's a unique blend of the future and the present that makes steampunk unique.

Not only has steampunk transcended into the design of everyday items, but artists are actually creating steampunk-inspired fashion. From clothing to jewelry, steampunk fashion makes a bold statement.

Steampunk-inspired duds is SO important to the steampunk look. Here are a few of my favorites:

Steampunk Asian Dude
Steampunk Dress
Steampunk Fashion Models
And here is some fantastical jewelry. It's amazing what these artists can do:

Steampunk Bracelet
Steampunk Ring

Not fashion related (although its cover is pretty gorgeous), author and blogger Michael Offutt's new science-fiction book, Slipstream, is out! Knowing Michael, it's going to be cerebral, exciting, and full of plot twists and stuff you just can't get anywhere else. Click HERE to learn more.

It's a look that allows for a lot of creativity.

Alex: And some people dress like this out in public all the time. A little weird, yet so darn cool!

I like the limited color palette (black, grey, maybe subdued violets, neutrals, and of course copper). It gives your eye the opportunity to see the character inside the artistic trimmings.

Like I said the other day, the aesthetic of Steampunk is awesome. I want to live in a world where everyone dresses like that.

Love it, especially the jewelry!

Kelly: Maybe that's why I like it so much. I've always been drawn towards more neutral, earthtones.

Rusty: Maybe I'll post my son in his Halloween costume. He went steampunk!

Martha: Isn't it cool? Etsy has a ton of it.

I love fashion in any story. Steampunk fashion is SO cool. So distinct :)

Kelley: It's very individualistic.

I really like that first dude's style. Could I wear it, too? Michael's book is very fashionable, so I think it works. :)

I actually know quite a few people that are into Steampunk. They even make a lot of their own stuff. It's pretty interesting. I'd maybe get into it as well if I had the money for it. Haha.
