H is for Hairstyles

* I'm in Dallas this week on business. Won't get much free time, as my days and evenings are already scheduled! I will catch up as best I can this week. Promise!

Parachute pants, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Growing Pains, L.A. Gear, Breakfast Club....what do all of these have in common? They all helped define the 80s. Come take a fun "Journey" with me as we revisit the totally radical decade.

The 80s was the decade of hair products - for both the guys and gals. I remember walking down the halls at school and getting hit with stray hairspray from one of the girls teasing their locks before class. Hairstyles during this fun time were so distinctive, and crazy thing is...some of these styles have come back!

The ladies:

The higher the better...and the more flammable!

The side ponytail! Can be used as a weapon too.

Crimp it to win it!
And the dudes:

Mullet: the more party in the back, the better
The rat tail...makes ya want to grab a pair of scissors

I remember mall hair on the girls and a can of hairspray on the hair metal dudes.

Holy carp! Some things are better left in the past. Way in the past.

I loved watching Rock Star and Rock of Ages with this great and funny walk down hairstyle lane.

I'm with Farawayeyes. Glad this hairstyle isn't making a comeback.

That first picture could have been me. Seriously.

Ah, nothing like the scent of Aqua Net in the morning...and the afternoon...and after school and...it was everywhere! :)

I had those bangs! LOL *cringing*

Even back then I never got the purpose of the rat tail. I wanted to take scissors to them in school and say "I'm with the Rat Patrol. No rats are allowed in Alberta."

My hair was never able to do all that 80s gymnastics. Sometimes the bangs but yeah...

The eighties was the decade of Reagan! Everything was big back then.

That side ponytail could take an eye out. Or a hair competitor. Yeah the rat tail needed to go.

The first rule of living in any era is not to have the defining hairstyle of any era. Because outside of that era you will always look stupid.

I think this is the post hairdressers in the future will use as inspiration. :)

I wasn't born in those times yet, but I'd like to have pics of my parents from that time! I bet they keep them well hidden!

I had one heck of a mullet at some point in there. I love the look my son get's on his face when I tell him it's coming back. Within 5 years, I'm sure of it.

My mom wouldn't let me tease my hair and style it in those funky styles like all the other girls did prancing around at the mall. But for some reason, she let my older sister do her bangs all high and wild.

I kinda miss the big hair...well, maybe not THAT big but still. :) I don't like flat hair.
My son had a rattail. Silly-looking thing. At least it wasn't a mullet.

I still see rattails here and there. But then again, I live in Missouri.
