Dragonfly Warrior COVER REVEAL, The Bashan Agenda, and NaNo

Thanks to all of those participating in the cover reveal for my debut novel, Dragonfly Warrior. Hopefully, many of you will see my cover throughout the blogosphere in the next week.

Here is the full book jacket reveal:

Isn't it just awesome? (If you click the cover, you'll see the full image. Depending on your screen, it's probably cut off on the right edge).

I must give props to those responsible for this cover. Enggar Adirasa is a talented artist, and he and I went back and forth until he captured one of the scenes from my book. Mr. Adirasa will be doing the covers for all my books in the first trilogy in The Mechanica Wars series. Check out his other work HERE.

Also, Jenn Howard has been instrumental in the ebook and full cover design. Without her graphic design goddessness, this cover would not have been possible. And she happens to be my longest running blog friend, so we go back 8 years. Jenn is one of the designers at The Author's Red Room. You can look at her book covers HERE.

Somebody asked me, "So, what's your book about?" Luckily, I'm a sales guy. And elevator pitches is part of what I do everyday. My reply was:

"It's about a young, naive prince who is sent on a desperate quest to the other side of the world by his father. Everything the hero thought he knew about the world is going to be turned upside down. Oh, and there's pirates, ninjas, samurais, and kick ass steampunk machines and weapons."

When we get closer to my publication date (January 6th...for now), I look forward to sharing more about this book that almost never got published. Twice! It's a relief, and pretty terrifying, to finally get my work out there. And thanks to everyone's support.

And here's something new from the lovely Melanie Shulz...

The Newstead Trilogy is one story in three parts, The Bashan Agenda, part two, picks up right where The Newstead Project left off. Nathan's truck eventually stops in the small town of Wilson, NY, and Rachel's still in it, not that she wants to be. But she figures at least in Wilson she'll be able to have a fresh start. She forgot one thing: they can be anywhere. As Joel trains with his father, doubts begin to rise in his mind. Is he really who he claims to be- and more importantly does he have an agenda all his own? When the maps to Bashan come out, Joel realizes maybe it's not such a good idea to be putting so much trust in one man.

The Bashan Agenda is available on:

NaNoWriMo kicks off at midnight tonight. The holidays are almost upon us too. So several bloggers decided to combine them into: All I Want for NaNo Bloghop! It's a great way to promote the upcoming book, The Spirit of Christmas Anthology.

So what do I want for my second NaNoWriMo experience? Really simple: to pass my optometric exam AND win! It's a crazy pipe dream, trying to cram for a very difficult test and try to write 50,000 words in one month. And in reality, I might not hit that word count goal. But that's okay.

Big picture, the test is more important to me. And from what I hear, it's full of trick questions. I'm not a fan of trick questions. If I know the material, I should get a good score. Right? Alas, the American Board of Optometry doesn't see it that way.

Is it asking too much to ace my test and hit 50,000 words...all in one month?

The full cover looks great! I like the anime feel to the artwork. Smart to stick with the same artist for all the books.
Congratulations to Melanie! And to those starting NaNo and who contributed to that anthology.
A lot happening today in the book world - think I have seven or eight books listed today.

Hi, Jay,
The cover is a good representation of the action/adventure, plus the steampunk aspects of the book.

Congrats to Melanie and have fun on the hop. Here's hoping you do well on your exams.

You cover artist did a really good job with the wrap-around design. People think it's easy, but it's not.

Congrats to Melanie, too.

I can't tell you how much I love your cover, seriously. It's full of awesome. Um, a big test and NaNo? I thought I was doing crazy things, but I think you have me beat! Good luck and thanks for joining our hop!

That's a cool cover. I'm glad the reveal wasn't just for today because I totally spaced on it with Halloween, Nano, Flash Fiction Fest, etc; there's just so much going on right now. I need to get a secretary.

What a great cover, Jay! I hear you about the designers and formatters, etc who make our words look good. I don't know what I would've done without those people for my collection.

Good luck with both the test and NaNo! I'm doing NaNo, too, and am nervous about it, as always. :)

And Melanie's cover is gorgeous too!
I will Tweet about your cover!

Hot dang!!!! That cover is so full of bad-assery, and the pitch definitely makes me want to read the book. Adding to my Goodreads list. Congratulations, Jay!

I'm all set to show off the awesome cover on my blog :)

And I think you can do it. NaNo and the exam. I'm cheering for you all the way!

Jay, I can only say it so many times - I love this cover and I'm so proud of you.

Thanks for letting me work on the typography and the print cover. So glad I could help out.

The cover is incredible. The artist did such a great job I would keep him for all of the books, too. Plus, I think there will be a feeling of continuity there.

My computer is down and my novel is trapped there. I did sign up for NaNo but my enthusiasm is waning given that I can't get the computer fix-it people on the phone to schedule an appt for fixing it. Egads. However, I can still get to my email and blogger on my mom's computer so I am not without resources. I just can't work on my WIP unless I want to write by hand. I really don't...

Alex: Tons happening in the book world. It's awesome to just be a part of it.

J.L.: I agree, it does capture that adventurous steampunk feel. I hate tests, but hopefully I'll pass the first time.

Melanie: Thanks so much, and no problem!

L. Diane: You are SO right. I was worried about how to wrap the design around, and Jenn Howard has got some skills!

J.A. : It's very full of awesome. And yes, I must be totally insane!

Jay Noel said...

Pat: I hear you. I almost forget about my own cover reveal with all the stuff I wanted to do for everybody!

Madeline: Yes, the graphic wizards are MUCH needed over here. I have no skills in that department whatsoever.

Dez: Thanks Dez. You're such a visual person, so I knew you'd like the cover.

David: Normally, I aim to ace tests. But this time, I'm hoping for just a 70% passing score.

Julie: I appreciate it. You know, I think I actually said "bad-assery" when the artist showed me his first sketch.

Kelley: Looking forward to visiting your blog on Monday!

T.S. Thanks!

Emily: Great. I will check it out!

Michael: You'll never know how much I've appreciated your encouragement.

Jenn: Thanks for all you've done!

Robin: We're working on the cover for book 2! That really sucks, Robin. I know another writer that had computer problems, and it set her back for over a month. Hope you get it fixed soon.

The cover is drop dead awesome. January will be here in a heartbeat. Looking forward to reading. I'm doing Nano this year after taking a year off (maybe two, I can't remember now) and I'm already feeling behind. It'll be a tough month. Good luck on your exam.

Congrats on that cover, Jay! Looks. freakin. awesome!

Jay Noel said...

Maurice: Thanks, man. I appreciate it.

Rusty: Good for you! NaNo pretty much saps all my energy, and I lay low in December...usually. NOT this year.

David: Thanks David!

Ha! Found you! (This site isn't on your other gmail/google account.) The blurb for your book is one of the best I've ever read. And that cover ROCKS! Wishing you huge success in Jan. New follower. :-)

Your cover is terrific. I'm having it on my blog next Tuesday. I can't believe you're doing NaNo and taking that BIG test. Trick questions don't seem fair. It should be just the facts, scientific. Good luck.
