Oh, How I Miss You Blogfest

The bloggers we miss… and the ones we would miss!

Do you have a couple blogger buddies who aren’t posting as often? Those who’ve pulled back and seem absent from the blogging world? Do you have blogger buddies you are grateful they are still around and would miss if they vanished? Now is your chance to show your appreciation and spotlight them!

List one to three bloggers you really miss and one to three bloggers you would miss if they stopped blogging. Then go leave a comment on those blogs.

Our blogger friends are special – time to let them know!

You ready for a time machine to take you back in time? The blogs I miss (and WOULD miss) go WAY back. In the last eight years, I can't tell you how many of my blogging buddies have disappeared. Blogging back in the day was really more like an online journal, a place to rant and talk about whatever.

These days, you have Facebook and Twitter and all the other micro-blogging sites. Sigh...sorry. Just waxing nostalgic. I hope you all can appreciate being introduced to blogs you've never seen before.

Here are the 3 blogs I miss:

The Musings of David Amulet. RIP (2005-2009) Music, movies, books, and anything else...this blog had it all. And the quick wit that rolled it all together is something I haven't seen in the blogosphere yet.

Blugstuff. RIP (2005-2008) Fuzzbox was a strange and fun mix of dirty, sexy, and artsy stuff. Yeah, his posts often depicted half-naked women. But the guy was unapologetic and raw.

Rocky Road Scholar. RIP (2005-2009) This had to be one of the greatest blogs I have ever read. Talk about getting a slice of life. Rocky never posted a lot on a regular basis, which made each post a golden nugget of charm and humor.

Here are 3 blogs I WOULD miss if they suddenly stopped:

The Blog. 2004-Present. Cube has been blogging longer than me. I don't get to visit her place as often as I used to, but she's still going strong. Going to her blog is like coming home. Current events and politics galore.

Heavy Metal Time Machine. 2005-Present. Love heavy metal? Even though I'm not a huge fan, I do have my head-banging moments. Metal Mark has been rocking for eight years too, and I don't see him quitting anytime least I hope not!

Rantings of An 80s Nut. 1999-Present. I DARE YOU to find a blogger that's been doing this longer. FOURTEEN YEARS!!! Martin's writing style is easygoing and introspective. He just talks about whatever is on his mind. I'm an 80s Nut myself, and it's always great to read about life from a fellow Generation X'er. Go check out this blog, as it's a piece of blog history, my friends.

Heavy Metal Time Machine? You bet I'm going to check out that blog!
Too bad David stopped - his blog sounds a lot like mine. We would've gotten along.

Brinda said...

I can't wait to check out those 3 blogs you've listed. :)

Pat Dilloway said...

Never went to any of those blogs.

Jay Noel said...

Alex: Yeah, you and David are VERY much alike. Same writing style and tone.

Brinda: It's fun to see blogs that have been doing it for so long

Pat: Check 'em out, man!

How cool that I get to 'meet' the writer behind that way cool cover I've been seeing all over the web lately! ;)
Your blog faves sound excellent--in fact that 80s blog sounds like one I will just love. Gonna check it out.

14 years, oh my! Love the way you included the dates for this post!

Pk Hrezo said...

Havent heard of these... must go check them out!!

David P. King said...

Fantastic list, Jay! I'll have to check those places out. You'll also want to check my place to see what prize you won. :)

Crystal Collier said...

Love it! I have so many blogging friends who've virtually disappeared over the years. I just keep hoping some of them will come back.

I'm taking a break but I feel good that I have survived this long when so many that began when I did have quit.

Those are great blogs to highlight. I may have to investigate.

Matthew MacNish said...

It's crazy sometimes to think how long you've been at this blogging thing, Jay.

Rusty Webb said...

Great list. And 1999...!!! did they even have an internet then? Who would be blogging then? How would you even do it? Were the tools for that sort of thing back then? Did they have fire? Wheels? When the printing press was first built, did that blog cover it?

Seriously, that's so far ahead of the curve I wonder if the curve is even in sight. When did Scalzi start Whatever? That was the oldest blog I'd ever heard of. I can't remember the date now.

I like the name, The Blog. Very cool!

That's amazing those bloggers have been around so long! Great new ones to check out. Thanks. :) Have a terrific weekend.

I almost joined this blogfest, but none of the bloggers I listed came back. So it made me sad. Still, you never know! 14 years is a long time to blog! Blogger started in 1999, so they got in on the ground floor!

Rhonda Albom said...

I don't know any of the blogs you listed here. I have lots of new blogs to check out from this blogfest. I am making a list :)

I miss David and Fuzz.

So many blogs have come and gone since I started back in 2005. Almost feel like an endangered species some times. Have a good one Jay.

Jay Noel said...

Rianna and Shife: We are still around. And hey - you might see David Amulet make an appearance here!

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

Wow, a blogger that's been at it for 14 years! I'm impressed.

I have a small circle of blogger friends but it's gotten smaller and I really miss them. I've met one of my fellow Washington ones and would love to meet more some day. Bloggers are a special group of people.

DaBlade said...

Nice blog, and good taste! cube's The Blog has been on my very short list for many years and I think of her as a friend. Hope that testimonial doesn't hurt her rep :)

Andrew Leon said...

Man, those ended before I even started. How strange that feels.

Jay Noel said...

Susan: I know. Right at the very beginning

kden: It will get smaller and smaller. I have had the pleasure of meeting a few bloggers face to face. It's been great!

DaBlade: Lol. I'm sure it won't.

Andrew: Yeah, some of us have been around a long time.

Elizabeth Seckman said...

I don't think I've visited any of those blogs. I'll have to check them out!

Michelle Wallace said...

You are truly a blogging veteran!
I've never heard of these blogs.
It was difficult to pinpoint about 3 bloggers I'd miss if they disappeared, so I opted to list 8 bloggers who seem to have slipped off my radar.

Elizabeth: I hope one of the bloggers I mentioned comes back to visit. I'm pretty sure he got my message to do so.

Michelle: Yeah, but I don't come close to 14 years! I will check out your post too!

cube said...

That's so sweet. Us oldtimers must hand together.

cube said...

DaBlade: Shhhh... Keep it down now.
