Meeting David Powers King

The Iron Skillet is behind us
Technology is great, but there's nothing like being face to face with a friend.

As a longtime blogger and writer, I really get a kick out of finally being able to meet with a good buddy in person. Everybody's blog takes on the personality of the blogger, so we often get a pretty good idea about what our blogger buddies are like.

I've been fortunate enough to meet a few bloggers over the years, and it's always been such a positive experience. Until I met David Powers King...

Just kidding. So David and his family happened to be in the wonderful state of Misery (Missouri), and they were only going to be an hour away from me on their way up to visit more family. So of course I had to go and meet him!

I was fortunate to have lunch with David, his wife, three little ones, and his sister's family. We met at a truck stop/diner. For real! The place was called Iron Skillet because they serve your food in...you guessed it...an iron skillet.

I can say without a doubt that David is even cooler in person. I'm a pretty talkative person, so I'm sure I talked his ear off. We talked about writing, collaborating with another author, and our publishing adventures. We even talked about our day jobs.

Social media is an amazing thing. It allows us to communicate with others from all over the world, and I love it. But it's extra special to be able to look a good friend in the eyes and shake his hand. Share a meal and swap stories.

I hope to meet many more of you. And don't worry. If you're an introvert, I'm more than able to talk for the both of us.

Cool you got to meet David and his family! Good thing you're a talker, because if we meet, you'll have to do most of it.

Meeting with other bloggers is always fun. I've met at least a dozen people in real life that I met first online. The biggest treat was meeting Elizabeth Spann Craig in person.

That is awesome! We both met up with a fellow blogger this weekend.

PS David, he better of only said positive things about collaboration!

Fun! I think it would be so great to meet up with fellow bloggers, chat about writing and books and whatever over coffee or a meal.

Alex: I have no problem doing the talking!

Diane: I need to meet another dozen bloggers. That would be awesome.

Miranda: Isn't it fun? And of course it was all positive!

Dez: We knelt in front of the iron skillet!

Madeline: If you ever get the chance, you need to do it.

Sarah: It's an amazing experience. Like I told Madeline, if you ever get the opportunity, take it.

So jealous that David got to meet you! I've met David. We actually live in the same city/area. But I only met him once.

Ohhhh!!!!! DPK rocks!!!! I've hung with him a few times! (And his wife is adorable!) What a fun time. Super jealous. If I had known this meet up was happening, I would've stalked you and invited myself :)

How great is that? I really love meeting people in person. And I'm amazed they're so like I imagined them from the way they write.

(For some strange reason I thought you and your family lived in Hawaii.) In Missouri, you're pretty central and can get to things on both east and west coasts. It's so delightful you met David and his family!

That is so cool.

Morgan, you're hysterical!

Oh, I love this so much! DPK is awesome, and I love the picture. I really enjoy getting together with writer friends. They're the only ones that 'get' me. :)

I'm an introvert unless it's a topic I really can get into. Then you can't stop me from talking so I think we would have a great meet Jay when the time comes. So cool you got to meet David in person.

SO glad I read this today! I just got an email from a friend from my MySpace blogging days about his visit in October. He's wanting to do the night scene thing. We were really good friends in those days, talking on the phone for hours, but we never met in person. He's an attorney in Colorado. I was kind of thinking, "Should I meet him?" but this was a reminder that meeting longtime blogging friends is a GREAT thing!

Haven't met any fellow bloggers in person yet, only a few friends from Facebook. Still think about meeting them but logistics/distance prevent me from making an honest attempt at it.

Awesome! I know what you mean. I've got so many amazing blogging buddies, I should go on a road trip just to meet them. If only we could all own teleportation devices, eh?

How cool! It'd be fun to meet more blogging people.

Technology is an amazing thing. I hear stories about how it alienates us, because we're looking at screens instead of people. But I think this is the most awesome part of it, meeting people through the screen, and then getting the opportunity to touch base offline! Great you got to meet up! That's so cool. :D

This is awesome, Jay. Glad it went well and I look forward to meeting you and other folks I have blogged in the near future.

Yay, fun! I've met a couple blogger friends in real life, as well, yet there's one who lives close to me that I haven't gotten to meet yet. We've tried, but it was derailed. Hopefully soon! Glad you guys got to meet, and that it was pleasant.

Very cool, Jay. I've yet to meet any of my online writer pals -- I have a sneaking suspicion some of them may be AI or clones...
