The Big Finish Before I Begin

Release date: November 6
With NaNoWriMo just a few days away, my huge goal of finishing Death Returns loomed ahead of me. My writing partner and I worked tirelessly every day, especially last weekend, to get it done. We had a hard deadline, and in order for our timeline to stay intact, our editor had to get our manuscript on Sunday.

It was a flourish of writing, but we got it done! Death Returns, our long-awaited sequel to Death Knocks will be available on November 6th.

So with that out of the way, I've been working on outlining and plotting for my big WriMo project.

I've been so crazy busy lately, I didn't stop to really look at the calendar and realize, wow. November is really just around the corner. This time of year is always exciting and fun, yet a little nuts.

Yes, I have a one-handed backhad
Once Halloween comes and goes, it seems the rest of the year just goes into hyperdrive, and then we're into the holiday season. After that, we'll be counting down the year and looking forward to 2018.

Even my oldest son has noticed that time seems to accelerate much faster now.

With many of us standing on the precipice of all this craziness, I think it's always good to try to carve out a little time to ourselves and slow things down a bit. I can't remember the last time I just sat down to read or even watch a movie on Netflix.

Many of us deal with stress, depression, and all kinds of end of the year challenges that threatens to keep us from stopping to simply breathe and just BE. I have to pledge to make the time to just chill out. I'm also a tennis player, so going out and hitting the courts is a great stress reliever.

How do you deal with stress this time of year? Any strategies you could share with me?

Awesome you got it done!
Tell your son welcome to adulthood where time really does speed up.

I totally agree about the end of the year speeding up - I can't believe NaNo is next week! I try to take time to sit quiet and read since it pretty much always relaxes me. I'm also trying to get outside more, get some fresh air - the weather is cooling off somewhat - whether that's a walk on the beach or a bike ride around the neighborhood.

Alex: Yes. It's interesting to see a young guy come into adulthood and notice all the little things that come with it.

Madeline: Being outside is definitely on the agenda. We're just about at the peak for the leaves changing color here in the Midwest.

I hope your Nano project goes well. I'm probably not going to do that this year.

I think the best way of dealing with stress is to have some friends you can go to who help you stay on course. I also like lists. When things get busy I forget everything. Making lists helps me stay organized and on task.

Pat: Thanks! I'm crazy for trying it after three years, but I'm ready!

Elizabeth: Yes. I can't live without my lists

So far, I've dealt with the stress by not realizing it's here already. LOL

Good luck with NANO!

Thanks Holly!

Congrats on the upcoming release and good luck with NaNo!
I've had a TON of stress lately and I think just being super lazy helps me feel better. Not sure if that's good advice, though...

Great that you finished indeed. Your son will see a lot of that as adulthood keeps coming into play. Sometimes we have to stop, but then other times all we can do is drop.

I love the holidays so I don't stress at all. And everything is at my house. I love having the family together and feeding them. It helps that everyone gets along.
I walk for my exercise though I hate the cold. Don't know what I'll do for winter. Congrats on finishing the book. Send me the info and I'll give you a shout out on my blog in November.

My ways of dealing with stress are pretty ordinary. Reading, writing, listening to music tops the list, followed by doing just about anything outdoors.

Congrats on making your deadline, and good luck with the NaNo. (You overachiever, you!)

Congrats on finishing Death Returns! Love that title, by the way.

Good luck with NaNo!

It seems like my life is full-on stress this time of year, but it has nothing to do with holidays. :) Woot on getting your writing done by the deadline! Looking forward to seeing it on the digital shelves.

Good job on the writing!

Agree about the holidays. I try to schedule downtime, but something always fills it up. This year, I have a lot of mandatory education and re-certifications for work taking all my off time. Blek.

End of the year is always crazy. Cold and snow doesn't help my mood either. I'm more aware of it now, so hopefully, the winter won't get me too down and I can enjoy the end of the year.

Congrats on getting the book done. I love the cover. I try to exercise every day because I won't sleep otherwise. I do watch a couple of Netflix show in the evening after the kids go to bed to unwind. This time of year I like to pick spooky shows like The Mist or Stranger Things.

Wow. No wonder you're stressed. I go for a run when I get like that-- usually just being outside is enough.

Congrats on the new release. Super excited for you!
